Thursday October 11th

A mixed day yesterday at Ludlow which just sums up the racing game.

The day was sad due to ‘Creevytennant’ sustaining an injury that he couldn’t recover from. He was running in his usual style and jumping beautifully from the front when he took off awkwardly and damaged his leg. He didn’t fall which just highlights the courage that he was full of.

At 14 years old he was still full of drive and enthusiasm for racing. Fergal purchased him as a 7 year old so he was a long standing legend of the yard who everyone loved.

I had the pleasure of taking him to Perth last year where I witnessed him put his whole heart into winning when joined at the last and looking to be passed but he wouldn’t have that and battled to make sure he won. That was his character.

This is may favourite picture of Kev on ‘Creevytennant’ and me on ‘Ratify’. Two really great racehorses who only wanted to please.

The day finished off on a very happy note with ‘Mrs Hyde’ winning the Mares Bumper. She led and stretched the field turning for home and no one could catch her. It was a great ride by Paddy and a deserved win.

Nia and the lovely ‘Mrs Hyde’ after her win.

Today we have ‘Soldier Of Love’ making his debut over hurdles at Bangor in the first race ridden by Noel Fehily for owner Malcolm Denmark. He jumps beautifully and he is working well so we hope he can make a solid start over jumps.

Our other runner today is ‘Troika Steppes’ in the last at Worcester. He can’t find his form this year so we hope a drop down to a novice hurdle over the brush hurdles at Worcester could give him an enjoyable time and then we can go forward over fences with a solid run under his belt. That’s what we are hoping for anyway!!

No runners tomorrow.

Thanks for reading.
